    YEONG-CHARNG YEN,B.D.S., M.D.S.--- Orthodontist

Dr. YEONG-CHARNG YEN was born at Taipei City and raised in the northern small mining town Kin-Kwa-Shih. He graduated from the Dental School of the Taipei Medical University in the ranking order of Top Second in the class and then served one year internship in the Dental Department of the National Tri-Service General Hospital. He then joined the Army and served as second lieutenant field surgeon in the Matsu Army Field Hospital, Matsu Island for two years.
 
Then Dr. Yen applied and passed the entrance examination of the Dental Department of the Taipei Veterans General Hospital in 1978. He received four years Residency, one year Chief Residency and one year Attending Physician harsh training and in those six years, Dr. Yen also served 5 years as clinical teaching assistant and one year as clinical instructor in the Orthodontic & Pediatric Section, School of Dental Medicine, National Yang-Ming University. He received the Annual Best Doctor Award in the Dental Department of the Taipei Veterans General Hospital in 1983.
 
He entered the graduate orthodontic program at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pittsburgh, PA. U.S.A. in 1984 and graduated in 1987 and earned the M.D.S. Degree of Orthodontics. Dr. Yen served as a Teaching Fellow in the Undergraduate Orthodontic Program at the School of Dental Medicine, University of Pittsburgh from 1985 to 1987. Then he passed the phase Ⅱ written examination of the American Board of Orthodontics in Oct. 1987 and became a Board Eligible Status.
 
Dr. Yen returned to his homeland, Taipei, Taiwan in Nov. 1987, then entered into the Orthodontic Section, Dental Department of the Chang-Gung Memorial Hospital and served as an attending physician to start his orthodontic service to the patient.
 
He started his own private practice Pittsburgh Orthodontic Clinic in July 1988 at Tien-Mou West Road, Taipei, Taiwan and tried to service all the orthodontic & pediatric patients with the best quality of the orthodontic & pediatric care that he had learned from the United States of the America.
 
After 10 years endeavor, Dr. Yen passed the phase Ⅲ examination --oral examination & 10 cases presentation-- of the American Board of Orthodontic and became certified as a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics in 1998, and later become the Fellow of the College of Diplomates of the American Board of Orthodontics.
 
He also contributes his knowledge, experience and energy to Taiwan Association of Orthodontists. He has been served as member of the House of the Delegates of the TAO, the member of the committee for orthodontic specialist examination, examiner of the Taiwan Board of Orthodontics, official representative of the Taiwan Association of Orthodontists to attend the world Federation of Orthodontist meeting at Paris, France in 2005.
 
Dr. Yen served as the Trustee of the Board of Trustees of the Taiwan Association of Orthodontists from 2009 to 2010 and also served as the Chairman of the International Developmental Committee of the Taiwan Association of Orthodontists in the same time period. Taiwan Association of Orthodontists (TAO) finally been an affiliate of the Asian Pacific Orthodontic Society under his strong leadership in the year 2011. Dr. Yen also served as the first officer of the TAO representative of the APOS Executive Committee from the year 2011 to 2012. All the Taiwan Orthodontic Professors, graduate students and clinician could have their papers published in the APOS equally with other sister Associations/Societies since then. This is the most important contribution of Dr. Yen to the Taiwan Orthodontic World. Of course, the great supports from the American Association of Orthodontists is also one of the key contributing factors.
 
Dr. Yen recently served as Clinical Associate Professor in the Graduate Orthodontic Program at Taipei Medical University, and Clinical Attending Physician in the Orthodontic Section, Dental Department of the Taipei Medical University Teaching Hospital to contribute his knowledge and experience to the next generation orthodontists in the Taiwan.
