Intraoral Scanner and Orthodontics
As the advancement of the orthodontic digital technology, the InCognito lingual orthodontics and the Invisalign clear aligner treatment modalities were developed to the orthodontic world since 2001. Then gradually the intraoral scanner technology was applied to clinical orthodontics in recent 5 to 6 years to replace the clinical impression procedures in the daily orthodontic practice.
The images via intraoral scanner could be processed through the dental 3D software (for example: Dolphin Imaging Software) for clinical application by the orthodontists in the ways of clinical diagnosis, orthodontic laboratories applications and eventually benefit the patients.
We orthodontists still need the orthodontic models on the articulator to evaluate the dynamic occlusal conditions and to understand the patient’s biting problems. According to the developments of the orthodontic digital technology, the author still consider that there is clinical values of the orthodontic models at this moment.
