This is a living, viable, and remarkably adaptive system, particularly during the period of growth and development of the craniofacial complex. Form and function were related intimately. Changes in functional stress produced changes in internal bone architecture and external shape. Orthodontist use these principles and different varieties of functional appliances to effectively correct the problems of the bad bites and to enhance the health of the stomatognathic system of the human body.
