Some of our patients really have severe dentoalveolar skeletal problems; for example, the gummy smile or severe protruding upper incisors which could not be corrected by the way of traditional orthodontic therapy due to the inability to wear the night braces or auxiliary appliance (for example: headgear….etc.). Our orthodontist will suggest patient to consider the alternate method of receiving the mini-implant or so called bone screw therapy during the orthodontic treatment period.

This mechanism of the treatment will use small diameter (from diameter of 1.2 mm, 1.5 mm to 2.0 mm) titanium miniscrews and to place it between the roots of the teeth or in the dentoalveolar bone so that patient does not need to wear the headgear. By doing this way, it could achieve the purpose of eliminating the gummy smile and correct the protruding upper incisors to enhance the balance and harmony of dentition and facial profile.
